Young Wilkerson Stevenson, Sr.

Young Wilkerson Stevenson Sr., 81, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026.  Born on August 14, 1944, in Jackson, Mississippi, Young lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service to others. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, loyal friend, and faithful servant whose kindness and quiet strength touched everyone who knew him.

Young was preceded in death by his parents, Foy Catherine Wilkerson Merwin and Lincoln Augustus Stevenson, stepfather James Townsend Merwin, and stepsiblings Richard Stevenson and Cynthia Ford.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne von Gal Stevenson; his sons, Young Wilkerson Stevenson Jr. (Laura), William Jefferson Stevenson (Pam), and Herbert von Gal Stevenson (Katherine); his daughters, Georgia Stevenson Holmes and Catherine Stevenson Hartley (Davis); his grandchildren, Foy Barton (Grant), Wilkie Stevenson III, Maureen Stevenson, Anna Stevenson, MaryRen Stevenson, Millie Stevenson, Suzanne Holmes, Burton Holmes, Vreeland Holmes, Pierson Hartley, Davis Hartley Jr., and James Hartley; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Alice Barton and Evie Barton.

After graduating from Sidney Lanier High School, he attended The University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Young continued his education at Thomas Goode Jones School of Law. He then practiced law before retiring as an attorney for the State of Alabama. Young will be remembered for his faith, generous heart, and steadfast love for his family and friends. His trust in the Lord guided every aspect of his life and sustained him through both life's greatest blessings and its trials. He found joy in the simple things—feeding his animals at the farm, fishing with friends, and spending time at Orange Beach and Lake Martin. Above all, he treasured every moment shared with his family, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

A visitation will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Montgomery, Alabama, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service for Young's life at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Young’s honor to St. John’s Episcopal Church, the Montgomery Humane Society, or Brantwood Children’s Home.

The family is deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support shown during this time. Young's legacy of faith, love, and devotion to family will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
