William Chadwick (Chad) Jefcoat, Sr., age 80, passed away in his sleep on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at his home in Montgomery, AL. He was born June 4, 1943, in Waukegan, IL to Nathan and Alma Stewart Jefcoat. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1962 and then attended Auburn University for two years. He was married to Mary Eleanor Jefcoat (deceased) and Janet Hilyer Jefcoat, the latter for nearly forty years. He was a State of Alabama employee (Department of Transportation) for over 30 years and was well liked and respected for his work ethic and his respect for his fellow employees. A good athlete, Chad played football, basketball and softball. He was also a coach, first in RA basketball where he won two state championships, then baseball and football for some of his son Will’s little league teams. He was a dedicated blood donor, achieving the four-gallon award from the Red Cross.
Chad was raised at Highland Avenue Baptist Church and then attended Eastmont Baptist, Capitol Heights Baptist and Eastern Hills Baptist. A booming baritone, he was a devoted member of the choir for every church he attended and looked forward to Wednesday night choir practice as much as Sunday morning services. Later in life, he also became active with the Carpenters for Christ from Eastern Hills.
A man that truly loved the Lord and had a unique, but clear understanding of God’s grace would answer the question “How are you doing, Chad?” with “Better than I deserve” and it was heartfelt.
Chad was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Judy Lackey, brother Jay Jefcoat, daughter Shana Faulkner, grandson Kolby Johnson and great granddaughter Ellie Mae Jefcoat.
He is survived by his wife Janet; a brother John (Stephanie) Jefcoat, son Will (Sherry) Jefcoat, daughters Julie Jefcoat, Brandi Roberts and Tawni Roberts and son in law Art Faulkner. Grandchildren Chad (Rena) Jefcoat, Kailey Johnson, Sidney Evans, Michael Jefcoat, Kohner Johnson, Karsyn Beth Johnson and Karrigan Johnson. Great grandchildren; Kaison, Kenzie, Maddi, Klay and Amelia and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3604 Pleasant Ridge Rd., Montgomery, AL, visitation at 11:00 am followed by the service on June 26, 2024.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Carpenters for Christ group from Eastern Hills.
