William E. “Bill” Granger Jr. - dedicated husband, father of four and known as “Coach” too many – went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2022 at the age of 62.
Bill was born to Gene & Betty Granger in Geneva, AL on August 5, 1960. He graduated from Carver High School in Montgomery, AL in 1978 before attending Alabama Christian College and Huntington College where he studied K-12 Education and was a standout baseball player. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1982. After a career-ending injury, he returned to Montgomery and began his coaching and teaching career. Over the next 40 years he would have stops at Sidney Lanier Senior High School, Jefferson Davis High School, Lee High School, Macon East Academy, Talladega High School and Beulah High School. After retiring from the public-school system, he went on to Success Unlimited Academy where he played a key role in starting their football program.
He gave his heart to Jesus at an early age. His passion was to spread the gospel to young athletes through coaching and ministry. He was a dedicated coach and life mentor to his student athletes.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Gene Granger Sr., his sister, Karon Granger Lee, his first-born granddaughter, Kennedy Grace Granger. He is survived by, his mother, Betty Eddins Granger, his devoted wife of 38 years, Cyndy Holmes Granger and their children, William Clinton Granger (Frances), Kyle Holmes Granger (Leah), Craig Eddins Granger (Calley), Kelsey Grace Granger. As well as his beautiful granddaughter, Mary Braswell Granger. Also survived by multiple nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Coach will be held at Heritage Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 2pm. Prior to the service, there will be a time of visitation from 12pm – 2pm. Donations can be made to Heritage Baptist Church Student Ministry.
