Wilbur Hufman Obituary

Wilbur Bernard Hufham died peacefully on July 23,2024 in Montgomery, Alabama. Wilbur was born in Montgomery on February 22, 1938 where he attended Sidney Lanier High School and then the University of Alabama where he played football before transitioning to hurdles for the track team. Out of college, Wilbur’s first job was with General Motors in Birmingham and Charlotte before relocating to First National Bank of Montgomery (First Alabama, Regions). Wilbur enjoyed a 40-year career in banking before retiring at Regions where he served as President. His biggest enjoyment in banking was always people who he loved to get to know and encourage. Wilbur had many interests and hobbies including golf, gardening, painting, Lake Martin, snow skiing and discovered recently, writing. He was a long-standing member at First United Methodist Church Montgomery and served on many local boards through the years including most recently Jackson Hospital.

Wilbur’s main love though was for his family. He was married for 61 years to Betty Boroughs Hufham who he met in Montgomery. Together with Betty, “Poppy” enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His main interests were whatever his grandchildren were doing at the time. He could consistently be found watching sporting events from his car whether in Montgomery or throughout the state. His kindness, patience, generosity and love for his family will always be remembered and will have long lasting effects.

Wilbur was predeceased by his parents Mark Bernard Hufham and Willie Kate Arant. He is survived by his wife Betty Hufham; by his brother James Hufham (Sherry); by his children: Marybeth Farris (Bob), Coleman Hufham (Amy); by his grandchildren: Daniel Farris (Elisabeth), Cole Farris, Hudson Hufham (Keller), Luke Hufham (Anne Coleman), Sam Farris (Molly Kate), Jake Hufham and Elsie Hufham; by his great grandchildren: Robert Farris, Nell Farris.

There was a private family memorial service held at First United Methodist Church on July 26, 2024 officiated by Dr. Karl Stegall, Dr. Jay Cooper, and Bishop Lawson Bryan.

Memorials may be made to Stegall Seminary Scholarship Endowment Foundation.
