Wanda Linette Armstead

ARMSTEAD, Wanda L. a resident of Montgomery, Alabama passed away Friday, October 31, 2025 at her residence. Wanda Linette Armstead Western was born on March 20, 1962, to William Russell Watkins and Audrey Mae Billups. She was preceded in death by her parents; adoptive father, Thomas Billups, Sr.; sisters Alicia Jamelle Billups and Sonia Marie Gibbs Dawson; and life partner, Dr. Charlie Western, Jr. Wanda went home to be with her Heavenly Father on October 31, 2025, after health challenges.

Wanda was educated in the Montgomery County School system in Alabama. She attended Trenholm State Community College where she received her associate’s degree in accounting. She started her career at Alabama Reference Laboratories where she initially accepted employment in medical billing and coding. Subsequently, her hard work, determination and commitment to ethics earned her a promotion and the opportunity to work in toxicology where she later retired.

Wanda loved the Lord. She was always prepared and willing to share her testimony about how God kept her to encourage, comfort and strengthen the faith of those in the midst of adversity. She gave selflessly of herself, always with a compassionate, thoughtful and generous heart. She possessed a peaceful and unwavering spirit. She served as a source of inspiration and guidance to others even in the midst of her trials.

 She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Jaleshia Jamelle Armstead of Montgomery, AL; four brothers; William Watkins Billups of Montgomery, AL, Willie Jerome Billups of Montgomery, AL, James Lamar Billups (Tonya) of Montgomery, AL, Thomas Billups, Jr. (Erika) of Stone Mountain, GA; one sister; Brenda Jean Tallie of Montgomery, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives and friends.

Graveside service will be held Friday, November 14, 2025 ~ 1:00pm at Greenwood Serenity Garden, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36109.  Visitation will be held Thursday, November 13, 2025 ~ 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Magnolia Cremations & Funeral Services, 901 South McDonough Street, Montgomery, Alabama 36104.
