Susan B. Hood, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama departed this life Friday, September 16, 2022.
Susan was born in California, Missouri. She was a lifelong lover of art and the beauty of life. She was an established visual artist working mainly in watercolors. Her work was shown and honored by awards in SACS (Society of Arts and Crafts) and Montgomery Art Guild exhibits. She wrote reviews of art shows for the Stonehenge Art Gallery. She was a mentor to many artists. She kept a painting journal and painted every day. She often made quick sketches of her surroundings and gifted them to those present.
She gained her undergraduate, graduate, and PhD degrees from the University of Missouri at Columbia in art, art history, and curriculum and instruction. She began her twenty plus teaching career at Indiana University, South Bend. Dr. Hood taught art appreciation and art history at AUM from 1993 -2010. In addition to university classes, she taught community art classes for adults and children. She enjoyed workshops in Woodstock, New York and made regular pilgrimages to the Louvre in Paris to study art. She loved teaching, and she loved learning.
In addition to her art, she was always ready to help her friends, and she rescued many cats and dogs. She was a member of One Montgomery.
The world is a more caring and more beautiful place for the life of Susan B. Hood. Her loss is felt by many. She will be remembered by her three sisters: Mary Elizabeth Collins and Martha Hood of Columbia Missouri, and Ruth Ellen Davis of Denver, Colorado, her niece, Elizabeth Meyer, and three nephews, David Meyer, Chris Davis, and Larry Collins, a host of friends, and her cats. Known not only for her art, but for her big heart, she will be remembered for spreading love and beauty.
