Lola Mae Thomas was born May 25, 1937 in Monroe, Louisiana to the late McKinley and France Cotton. In 1955 she moved to California with her Older brother Lawrence Cotton who preceded her in death. She later graduated from McClymont High School in 1957, in West Oakland. Lola was joined in Holy Matrimony with Otis Thomas, July 27,1959 in Oakland, California within this union a son was born, Michael Thomas.
She was baptized as a teenager, in 1966 she rededicated her life to Christ at Corinthians Missionary Baptist Church of Oakland, California, under the leadership of founding Pastor L.E. Mathews. Lola loved to sing in choir; she served as an Usher, she loved Sunday School. She enjoyed working in the Church, serving the Outreach Program for many years. Lola was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend.
Lola had a dedicated career in nursing in the 1980’s, starting out as a nurse aide and further her education to become an LVN. She retired early; her beautiful granddaughters took her off her career path for a life of bliss. In 2019 Lola and Otis Thomas moved back south to “The Gump” (Montgomery, Al) to live out their last days in their forever home.
In His own way and his own purpose, God has reached down in His garden to pluck one of His most beautiful and precious flowers.
Who preceded her in death were her sisters and brother: Betty Snowden, Dorothy Edwards, Sophria Staten, Terry Cotton, Huey P. Cotton, Bobby Cotton, Robert Lee Cotton and Lawrence Cotten.
On March 14,2025 Lola Mae Thomas departed this life, she leaves to cherish beautiful memories: a loving husband Otis Thomas; one son Michael Thomas Las Vegas, Nevada: one dedicated daughter/daughter-in-law Ruthie Robinson-Anderson (Alvin) of Montgomery, Alabama; Two sisters Beverly (AC)Robinson of Monroe, Louisiana, Frances Cotton-Mathews of Houston, Texas. Grandchildren; LaSheba Robinson and Eugenia (Daniel)Davis of Stockton, California, Michelle Thomas of Montgomery, Alabama. Great Grandchildren; Lyniqua Thomas, Mario Thomas, Little Daniel Davis of Stockton, California. Great Great Grandchildren; Cy’onna Thomas, Giovanni Thomas of Stockton, California. Host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends, loving Church Family.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 29th, 2025 - 11:00am at Magnolia Cremations & Funeral Services, 901 South McDonough Street, Montgomery, Alabama 36104.
