Linda Lincoln Jones, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2024, in Montgomery, Alabama, after a long fight with a chronic illness. She was 72 years old.
Born in Seattle, Washington, on December 17, 1951, Linda spent her childhood in the Roosevelt neighborhood and attended the University of Washington, earning a degree in Accounting. She went on to have a fulfilling career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Along the way, she also worked as a librarian in her children’s school, a job that brought her great joy.
Linda's career culminated in her retirement from government employment at the GS-13 level, where she was known for her meticulous attention to detail and dedication.
In 1975, Linda married her husband, Steve Jones, and they shared a full life together. Over their nearly 50 year union, they traveled extensively to support Steve’s career in the Air Force. She was a devoted wife and mother to their children, Lisa and Matthew, and a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren, Thomas, Christopher, and Molly.
Linda's passions extended beyond her career and family. She loved to garden and enjoyed growing beautiful flowers. A skilled knitter, she sought out the most intricate patterns and gifted her creations to loved ones. She was also a lifelong reader and continued to enjoy literature through audiobooks even when her illness made it difficult to read. She also loved the water, snorkeling in many exotic locations.
But perhaps Linda's greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She was famous for her delicious chocolate birthday cakes, her ability to construct fun and impromptu forts, and her unwavering love and support for her children and grandchildren.
Linda Lincoln Jones was an incredibly strong person who loved her family deeply. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
There will be a private memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Montgomery Area Food Bank.
