Laura Elizabeth Justice

Laura Elizabeth Mills Justice, 52, of Montgomery, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at her residence.  Laura was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, August 4, 1971, the oldest daughter of James Richard and Virginia Yarnell Mills. After re-locating in Alabama, Laura graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery. She earned a Bachelor of Education at Auburn University Montgomery and a Master of Education at Alabama State University.

Laura was employed as a Health and Physical Education teacher in the Montgomery Public School System for twenty-five years at Morningview Elementary School and Goodwyn Middle School. She was instrumental in the development of many outstanding athletes and the coach of tennis and award-winning Cheer teams. She was inventive in her teaching methodology and always kind and encouraging to her students and colleagues.

Laura was also an accomplished athlete as a fast-pitch softball player and virtually any sport that she chose to play. She also had a love for music, playing clarinet in her high school band and studying piano privately. She received much joy attending concerts and singing with her daughter, Landon.

Perhaps her greatest gifts to those who knew and loved Laura were her care and compassion to her family and friends. She helped guide her father through a difficult health crisis while suffering one of her own. She was quick to laugh and smile. She worked and played hard and tended with great devotion to Meg, her pug and Lulu, her long-haired dachshund.

Those who remain to celebrate and cherish the memory of Laura are her daughter, Landon Elizabeth Justice, sister, Emily Mills Stuart (Allen), parents, James Richard and Virginia Yarnell Mills, aunts, Cynthia Mills Ensor and Julia Yarnell Dean, nephews, Kasen and Nolan Stuart, and many cousins.

Laura was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Herman and Marjorie Mills, maternal grandparents, Harry and Catherine Yarnell, aunt, Becky Mills Mochen, uncle, Harry (Buz) Yarnell.

Laura’s family and friends will grieve the loss of her affectionate touch but her gentle soul will live with us forever.

Laura Elizabeth Mills Justice will receive A Rite of Burial at Grace Episcopal Church, 906 Pike Road, AL 36064, Friday, August 9, 2024, Visitation from 12:00 until 2:00, Rite of Burial Service at 2:00, Reception to follow.
