John Ellison Vickers, Jr.

John Ellison Vickers Jr., of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on October 19, 2025. Born in Montgomery, John graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in the Class of 1967, where he commanded the drill team to a national championship. Upon graduation from Auburn University in 1972, John built a diverse and successful career in sales, timber, and trucking before retiring in Montgomery with his beloved wife, Sandra Goss Vickers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. John E. Vickers Sr. and Anne Grant Vickers. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Goss Vickers; his children, John E. Vickers III (Marla) and Whitney Dyer (Jon); his stepson, Matthew Hodge; his grandchildren, Alice Vickers, Anne Vickers, Jon Lawrence Dyer, and Easton Dyer; his brother, Grant Vickers; and his sister, Patricia Grindle (John).

A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Pine Level Methodist Church, 593 Pine Level Loop, Mathews, AL 36052.
