Jesse "Bubba" Williams Obituary

WILLAMS, Jesse "Bubba" a resident of Montgomery, Alabama passed away Monday, May 04, 2026, in a local rehab facility.  Jesse "Bubba" Williams was born March 10, 1939, in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Lucy Rudolph and Prince Williams who preceded him in death.

Jesse finished from George Washington Carver High School. At an early age, he united with Beulah, Baptist Church Hope Hull.

Jesse became a local hero February 07, 1967, when the Historic Downtown Montgomery, AL. Dale Penthouse burned down. Jesse raced inside and lead a group of trapped residents to safety. He immediately returned to rescue a second group of residents and almost lost his life during the second heroic rescue. Using an elevator cable line, he evacuated through a window and lowered himself to safety. A true hero and Montgomery Legend.

Jesse was also known for his famous ribs & more at the Highland Village BBQ Hut. Head chef at famous restaurants, Mr. G's, The Pub and Charles Anthony.

He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-one years, Alberta Matthews Williams and one son, Marcus Williams.

He leaves to cherish his memories five loving & devoted sons, Ervin (Latasha) Williams, Michael (Mary) Taylor, Kurvin (Fannie) Streeter, (all of Montgomery, Alabama) Curtis (Annie Burch) Brown of Florida & Vincent (Felecia) Williams of Huntsville, Alabama. 2 daughters, Gloria Brown & Tangie (Leon) Jordan both of Montgomery, Alabama (3) sisters, Annie Ruth Jones, Rosia M. Sankey & Elizabeth Sankey (all of Montgomery, Alabama). (3) brothers, Robert Williams, Anthony (Gwen) Parks (both of Montgomery, Alabama & Lorenza (Dawn) Sankey of Round Hill, VA, (1) devoted & loving sister-in-law, Alta Matthews Shelby & (3) brothers-in- laws AD Jr, Primus Matthews & Ellis Matthews (all of Montgomery) 22 grandchildren & one great grandchild. (1 Aunt Katie Hickman & (uncle) Moses Williams. Devoted and caring nieces, Julia (Derrick) Johnson & Betty (John) Ashley. A host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, 12:00pm at Magnolia Cremations & Funeral Services, 901 South McDonough Street, Montgomery, Alabama 36104.  Visitation will be Friday, May 15, 2026, 1:00pm to 6:00pm at Magnolia Cremations & Funeral Services, 901 South McDonough Street, Montgomery, Alabama 36104.
