A Life Fully Lived, Authentically Loved Jayda Elms was born Jometric Jakeese Elms on November 6, 1977, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Barbara and Joseph Elms. As Jometric, he accepted Christ at an early age and built his life on a foundation of faith and spiritual conviction—values that remained with her throughout every chapter of life.
As Jayda grew in self-understanding and purpose, she found the strength to walk in truth and live as the woman she wanted to be. In later years, she transitioned and legally became Jayda Elms—a name that reflected her inner grace, beauty, and authenticity.
Her transition was not just a change in appearance, but a sacred step toward self-acceptance and personal peace. Jayda lived her truth boldly, with compassion and quiet strength. Her life stood as a powerful testament to faith, courage, and the freedom to be one’s truest self.
Jayda entered eternal rest on July 28, 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama. Though her time on earth has ended, the light she shared and the love she gave will live on forever in the hearts of those she touched.
Jayda’s spirit radiated kindness, dignity, and a calming warmth. She had the remarkable ability to make others feel seen, heard, and loved. Her faith was steadfast, and her heart was generous. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Barbara (Joe) Cheatham. She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted father, Joseph (Charelsie) Elms; her loving brother, Omar McQueen; and her cherished mother-figure, Tamika Spellman, whose unwavering love and guidance deeply impacted Jayda’s life. She is also survived by a host of extended family, lifelong friends, and chosen loved ones. Though Jayda had no children of her own, she nurtured and inspired many. She was a source of strength and light to all who knew her—unapologetically herself, deeply loved, and forever remembered.
