James “Jim” Vernon Franklin, age 88, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, died January 11, 2023. Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia Chambers Franklin; daughters Michelle Sealy and Judith Redden (Russell); grandchildren Gretchen Mock (Jason), Jonathan Sealy (Elissa), Rachel Taylor (Jesse), Ethan Sealy (Julie), Russell Redden (Brianna), Thomas Ward (Taylor), and Patricia Ward (Jonathan); greatgrandchildren Ella Mock, Zoe Mock, Philip Sealy, Daviss Sealy, Evangeline Sealy, Ellie Sealy and Rebecca Redden.
Jim served 25 years in the United States Air Force in a variety of duties, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. These included navigator, radar intercept, financial management, and education and training. Jim subsequently went on to be an employee of the State of Alabama as an accountant and budget analyst retiring after 17 years. Jim’s love of teaching also led him to serve as an instructor at Auburn University Montgomery and Troy University Montgomery for many years.
Internment, memorial service, and visitation will take place at the Church of the Ascension, 315 Clanton Avenue, Montgomery, Alabama 36104, Saturday, January 21, 2023, 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jim’s memory to the Church of the Ascension, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, MACOA, or the charity of your choice.
