James Selmon Obituary

James Bryan Selmon, 58, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on October 13, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Catoma Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a celebration of life service to follow at 11:00 am, with Pastor Mike Golson officiating. James was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Zelda Selmon. He is survived by his wife, Melissa Selmon; children Brittany (Levi) Collins, Bryan (Tracy) Selmon, and Will (Katie) Selmon; four grandchildren, Kolten, Kinsley, and Khloe Collins, and Maverick Selmon; as well as his sister, Carol Sprinkle, and brother, Paul (Rose) Selmon; as well a host of nieces and nephews.

James was a husband, father, brother, “Papa,” and a friend to many. James loved his family and friends dearly. He had a lifelong career as a heavy equipment mechanic, including twenty-six years between Thompson Caterpillar and The Lilly Company as a forklift mechanic. There wasn’t nothing he couldn’t fix.

James loved baseball and football and was an avid Ohio State fan. He was completely involved in anything his kids did. He coached East Montgomery Baseball and youth football for over twenty years. His happy place was anywhere his friends and family were, especially the lake or the beach. He was always up for a good adventure.

James loved his fur babies as much as he loved his children. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Troy Animal Rescue Project.

The family would like to thank Baptist Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion, as well as the Montgomery Cancer Center, the doctors and nurses at UAB, and the orthotics department at Spain Orthotics Clinic. https://www.paypal.com/donate?token=5nKWlQ_VyCCcCGeXJ7ys181xu0G-HqSNwZoYvWgDpSOIW8MLeMH-AAH31W-HeQa1FAyBMVv89ECY-hgE&locale.x=US
