James Pippin Obituary

James Howard Pippin, of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away at home on February 5, 2026, at the age of 73. Mr. Pippin leaves a legacy of faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, strength and courage to take the road less traveled. Jackie or Jack, as he was known to family and friends, was born on July 7, 1952 in Columbus, Georgia. He was the son of the late James G. (Jack) and Martha Blackwood Pippin. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Martha Gail Pippin. He is survived by one son: Russell (Melanie) Pippin, of Mathews, AL; grandchildren Nathan Pippin, of San Diego, CA, and Zoey Pippin, of Mathews, AL; and sisters Lyn (Bobby) Duncan, Pelham, AL; Tracy (Roy) Delaney, of Enterprise, AL; and “adopted sister”, Andrea McCain, of Montgomery. He is also survived by five nieces and nephews: Tracy (Chris) Voshall, of Atlanta, GA; Jenny (Matt) Wood, of Hoover, AL; Cody (Cassie) Delaney of Greenville, AL; Jake Delaney of Florence, AL; and Sam Delaney, of Enterprise, AL, along with beloved great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Pippin was a lifelong member of Whitfield Memorial United Methodist Church until is closing in May 2025. He was a 1970 graduate of Jefferson Davis High School. A man of many interests and talents, Mr. Pippin worked in the construction and estimating industry for 22 years and as a professional photographer for eight years. Following a lifetime love of aviation, he furthered his education by attending Enterprise-Ozark Community College, Ozark Aviation Campus, Ozark, AL, where he earned an associate’s degree in aviation maintenance technology in 2005 at the age of 53. While there, he served as president of the student government association, was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and was a 2005 member of the All Alabama Academic Team.  At 65, Mr. Pippin attended Trenholm State Community College, Truck Driving Program, after which he enjoyed traveling across the country on several occasions. Following retirement, Mr. Pippin continued to work from home as a self-employed steel estimator.

Since July 2025, Mr. Pippin received the services of Southeast Hospice Network as he gradually succumbed to Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma. His family is deeply appreciative of their services, in particular the care of Tonna Arnold, Mark Grizzard and Unice Catlin, along with the prior care of Dr. Brian Elrod.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, located at 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109, with Magnolia Cremations and Funeral Services officiating.
