He accepted Christ at an early age and was educated in the Montgomery Public School System. He later became a proud member of the George Washington Carver Marching Wolverines in which he played trumpet. He was a waiter at the Sahara Restaurant for many years. He leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, Hernando James (Kendra) and Herbert Wright (Mesha), two daughters, Niki Bailey Kendrick (Charles) and Kalah Hill (Sean); Fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren: A brother, Leartis Bailey (Columbia, S.C.) Two sisters, Regina Boswell, who preceded him in death, and Payton Bailey. An uncle, Kenneth Wilson; three aunts, Diane Banks, Christine Wright, and Clementine Wilson. A host of step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A special cousin, Patricia Williams, long time friends, Johnnie Mae Townsend and Wilma Crosby
