With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Harlin Leon Varden (affectionately also known as Bear, Pops, Pepaw) on March 30th 2025 peacefully at his home. Harlin was born on October 14, 1948 in Vanderbilt TN to the late Leon and Mary Varden of Fairview TN. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Neil Varden. Harlin retired from W.S. Newell and Sons. He enjoyed being outside, spending time out in his garage, and spending time with his friends and family and was well known for his love of conversation. He is survived by the mother of his children Georgia McWhorter. His sons Jeffrey Varden and Michael (Jeanna) Varden of Wetumpka AL, Shannon (Regina) Varden of Alexander City AL, David (Michelle) Varden of Manchester TN, and daughter Stephanie (Jay) Mayne of Asheville AL. Nine grandchildren Samantha Honea, David (Amber) Varden JR, Danan (Taylor) Smith, Michael (Alexandria) Varden JR, Jesica Varden, Chasity (Phillip) Ennis, Kimberly Perkins, Nathan (Gracie) Englebert, Cecilia Sides and 10 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank all those who became a part of Harlin’s life. Also thank you to Ivy Creek hospice who assisted in his final days of life. Harlin will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at a celebration of life on May 3rd, 2025 at 4PM.
