Eva Bruce Obituary

BRUCE, Eva R. a resident of Montgomery, Alabama transitioned on Saturday, August 02, 2025 at her residence. With hearts full of both sorrow and gratitude, we celebrate the life and legacy of our beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of God, Eva Moton Bruce.

Eva’s journey began in February 1937 in Montgomery, Alabama, where she was welcomed into the world as the cherished daughter of Gladys Moton. A proud graduate of Carver High School, she was raised on the firm foundation of faith, baptized at an early age, and joyfully accepted Christ as her personal Savior. This decision became the compass for her life—guiding her steps, shaping her service, and inspiring her unwavering devotion to others.

Her pursuit of education reflected both determination and excellence. Eva attended Alabama State University for three years before completing her studies at Westchester Business Institute in New York. Over the years, she embraced each role she held with grace and diligence—from factory worker, to nurse’s aide, to her distinguished career as an executive secretary and member of the North Salem High School Board of Education. Eva exemplified professionalism and integrity. Her grace under pressure and unwavering commitment left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to work alongside her.

In 1961, Eva moved to New York, where she built not only a career but a life deeply rooted in purpose. Her commitment to the Lord and His work was steadfast. She served faithfully as church secretary, Senior Sunday School teacher, and President of the Missionary Ministry at Second Baptist Church. She also lifted her voice in the church choir, offering praise that touched hearts and glorified God. For her tireless dedication, she was honored with the Ambassador of Peace Award—a fitting tribute to the life of kindness, humility, and compassion she lived.

Eva’s greatest calling, however, was her family. She was the loving sister of Thomas Moton, Phillis Randolph Hooks, and Cynthia Dillard, and the devoted wife of Robert Bruce Sr. Their love story began in 1953, and three years later they began their 69-year journey together in marriage—a bond that produced five children, thirteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

To her daughters and granddaughters, Eva was an encourager, inspiring them to seek knowledge and independence while holding fast to the values of love and family. To her sons, she was a gentle but firm guide, urging them to be prayerful, hardworking, and men of strength and integrity, following in the example of their father.

Her life was a living testimony of grace, faith, and service. She loved deeply, gave freely, and walked humbly with her Lord. Her legacy will continue to shine through the lives of all she touched, the lessons she taught, and the unconditional love she gave.

Eva is lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert Bruce Sr; her children Gwendolyn, Cheryl, Patrice, Kenneth (Annie); her grandchildren Kina (Jawanza), Jackie, Clarissa (Jasper), Samantha, Katherine (Tay), Robert J. (Brittany), London, Asher, Kendall, Robert A., Arabella, Kensley; and her great-grandchildren Jaira, Elijah, Jamal, Dasan, Neziah, Sincere, Brooke, Bailey, JaSai, Joshua, and Jeremiah.

She was welcomed into eternal rest by her mother; her siblings Joseph, Warren, Willie, John, and Josephine; her son Robert Jr.; and her grandson Adam.

We thank God for her life—a life beautifully lived and now eternally rewarded.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
