Edward Pegram Galt, Jr. a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, for some years, departed this life on July 10, 2021.  He was born on December 5, 1941 in Selma, AL, and was a resident of Selma for many years.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edward P. Galt and Beulah Mae Petty Galt. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elaine Faulkenberry Galt, son Edward “Pete” Galt III of Boulder, CO, a daughter-in-law Kate Wilsmann Galt, grand-daughter Evelyn Rain Galt, grandson Edward P. Galt IV, daughter Charlotte Elaine Galt Martin of Montgomery, son-in-law Joesph T. Martin, his beloved sister Anne Galt Pilcher, nephews John Edward Pilcher and Joseph T. Pilcher, both of Selma, nieces Mary E. Pilcher of Fairhope, AL, and Emmie Pilcher Flowers of Brewton, AL.  

Mr. Galt proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968, including service with the 1st BN, 7th Marines as a Combat Field Radio Operator in the RVN.  He was discharged with the rank of SGT-E5.  Mr. Galt was a life member of the 1st Marine Division, Vietnam Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Marine Corps League, Marine Corps Association and Foundation, Marine Corps Heritage Foundation and the American Legion.

Ed spent his entire working career in the the building products business.  From 1992 until his retirement in 2008, Ed worked for the Guice Slawson family in the wood treatment business as Director of Purchasing.

A life-long Episcopalian, Ed was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church where he served as Senior Warden.  After cremation, his ashes will be interred in the columbarium at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Selma, AL.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday July 14th, at St. John’s in Montgomery, Alabama.  Prior to the service, the family will receive visitors at 1:00 PM.  Burial service will follow at 4:00 PM in Selma at St. Paul’s, where he was baptized, married, and where members of the Galt family have worshipped since the Civil War.  Ed served as St. Paul’s Senior Warden in 1994, exactly 80 years after his great-grandfather similarly served.
