Dr. Yaw-Chin Ho

Dr. Yaw-Chin Ho passed away peacefully on January 29, 2023.  Born in Chia-i, Taiwan in 1935, Yaw-Chin graduated from Soochow University (Taipei, Taiwan) with a degree in Economics.  In 1962, he entered graduate school at Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennessee) and from there obtained a master’s degree in Economics and a Ph.D. in Mathematics.  Yaw-Chin began his career in biostatistical research and development in the field of patient care for various medical and nursing programs in Tennessee.  He went on to establish a long academic career at Auburn University at Montgomery School of Business, in the Department of Information Systems and Decision Science.  There he served on the faculty for over two decades, including as Chair of the department.  Yaw-Chin was named Professor Emeritus upon his retirement from the faculty and continued to serve in various capacities for AUM, including as a special assistant to Chancellor John Veres.

Yaw-Chin cherished the lifelong friendships he cultivated in Nashville and Montgomery.  He loved his home in Pike Road, where he and his beloved wife of 59 years, Jane, enjoyed landscaping and gardening on the weekends.  When not tending to the home, he enjoyed practicing Chinese calligraphy, reading John Grisham novels and catching up on the latest family news from his five grandchildren and his extended family.  

Yaw-Chin is survived by his wife Jane, daughters Belynda D’Andrea (Donald) and Alison Horton (Edward) and five grandchildren, Sara D’Andrea, Nicholas D’Andrea, Elizabeth D’Andrea, Lucien Horton and William Horton.  The family will hold a private memorial service.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alabama Kidney Foundation, https://www.alkidney.org/, 265 Riverchase Parkway East, Suite 106, Hoover, AL  35244.
