Dr. Glen Bannister, Jr. Obituary

Bannister, Dr. Glen C., Jr., (83) died August 12, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lynda McCary Bannister; his daughters, Millinee (Mark Womack) and Katherine (Heyward Gould); granddaughters Lillie Gould, Alex Gould, and Evie Womack; sisters Glenda Morley and Jean Smith; sister in-law, Shawn Dominic (Virgil); nephews Varner Bannister (Sam Gillis) and Michael Smith (Norma) and niece Carol Romeo (Don) and many beloved cousins.

Glen is predeceased by his parents Elaine Gandy Bannister and Glen C. Bannister, Sr.,sister Lisa Elaine Bannister and brothers-in-law Charles Smith and James Morley.

Glen grew up in Rockford, Alabama and received his undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees from Auburn University, to which he remained deeply attached. Active on campus, he served as President of the School of Education, State President of the Student Alabama Education Association and was a member of the Auburn University Marching Band and Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

Professionally, he was Dean of Students at Andrew College, Psychologist and Director of Training with the Tuskegee Veterans’ Administration Medical Center and had a 40 year private psychotherapy practice in Montgomery. He served as the first State Chairman of the Association of Licensed Psychologists in Alabama and received the Alabama Psychological Association’s award for Outstanding Contributions to the field of Applied Psychology.

Active in the community as an advocate for children, he served on the Board of Directors of The Family Sunshine Center and Child Protect. He enjoyed playing the piano for various civic and social functions. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, was a member of the Journey Sunday School Class and volunteered with the Respite Ministry.

Glen never met a stranger. He was known for his quick wit and creativity, crafting poems for family and friends, writing songs for his own enjoyment and providing music wherever he went. If you were lucky (or unlucky) you may have received a personalized verse touting your accomplishments and highlighting your idiosyncrasies. He enjoyed gardening and spending time in nature, especially fishing and exploring Hatchet and Swamp Creeks. Glen’s greatest joy was being Papa to his three granddaughters.

The family offers special thanks to the Respite Ministry at First United Methodist Church, Parkinson’s Support Group Montgomery and dedicated caregivers Ethel Gary, Chaqueisha Fortson of Answered Prayer, and SouthernCare/New Beacon Hospice nurse, LaShay Smith.
