Donald Talbert Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Donald Allen Talbert. He was called home on July 11th, 2025, at the age of 69. He is survived by his 7 kids, 2 sons in law, 1 daughter in law, 12 grandkids, 4 bonus grandkids, 2 sisters, 1 brother and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Donald was born on November 29th, 1955 in Long Beach California to Mervel and Evelyn Talbert. He worked at McDonnell Douglas aerospace company before starting his own lawn service. He eventually moved on to truck driving and continued to do so until his retirement. He loved the freedom of being on the open road. He moved to Alabama about 15 years ago when he was looking for a slower paced lifestyle.

Throughout his life, he had many di erent interests. He enjoyed the simplicity of working on his garden at home or the thrill of jumping on his motorcycle. When his kids were younger, he would take them on short trips around the block or to the store for a treat. In his younger years, he enjoyed watching Nascar, and even briefly drove stockcars. His older kids have fond memories of going to Ascot Park in Gardena, Ca and watching dad race his blue chevy with the number 42 painted on it. He loved working on cars and rebuilding engines. Sometimes he would pick up a guitar and strum a few tunes. He was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed shooting practice and collecting di erent types of firearms. At one point, he even made his own bullets. He was a hands-on dad and often found ways to include his kids in whatever he was doing.

He enjoyed spontaneous trips, whether it be driving into Mexico to spend the day or taking his boys camping for the weekend. He enjoyed camping trips with his family in Glamis, Ca., where he would drive dune buggies during the day and sit by the fire at night. He would tell stories about flying in small planes piloted by his dad as a child. He could talk to anyone for hours about lots of di erent things and, he brought the dad jokes.

Donald lived life to the fullest. He loved being out and about and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved his kids and grandkids more than anything and lit up whenever they were around. If he wasn’t with them, he was probably bragging about them to someone. He enjoyed frequent phone calls with his kids and making the trek across the country to spend time with his family in California. He always chose to look at the positive side of every situation and always made everyone feel welcome. One of the many special things about him was his ability to love everyone di erently based on who they were individually, and he loved giving out nicknames. Everyone will have their own favorite story to tell about the time spent with him. He left an impression on just about everyone he met.

Per Donald’s request, services will not be held, but his family will hold a celebration of life in his honor closer to his birthday. Information for that will be sent out by family members. Condolences can be sent directly to the family.
