Debra Sims Obituary

Debra Ann Sims, "Debbie" age 64, was surrounded by loved ones as she departed this life on November 15, 2023 when she was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Joan Carolyn Garza and L.R. “Bob” Garza, MSGT, U.S.A.F. Ret.; a brother, John E. “John-John” Hoffman Jr.; and her beloved son, Alan Sims.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, George J. Sims; two daughters, Brandie Sims and Candie Sims; sister, Laura Garza-Wilt (Frank); brother, Glen Garza; and five grandsons: Noah Sims, Peyton Sims, Jayden Kirk, Alexander Garcia, and Max Garcia. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends whom she loved dearly.

Debbie was born into the union of Joan C. Lockey Hoffman & John E. Hoffman Sr. on May 11, 1959 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Her mother later married Bobby Garza, whom Debbie lovingly referred to as "Dad." Debbie became a proud "Air Force brat" and spoke fondly of those memories, especially growing up in Germany and at Carolina Beach. She eventually settled in Montgomery, Alabama where she met her loving husband, George. Debbie was a loving, dedicated mother first and foremost. She was especially proud of her role as “Grandma” and treasured every moment with her grandchildren.

“Our Mama was a strong, fierce woman whose intuitive advice never led us astray. Her straightforward, yet vivacious personality always kept us all on our toes and often in stitches with her dry sense of humor and wit."

"Thank you, Mama, for instilling into us your wisdom, courage and strength. We love you more than words will ever express and we know that you are always with us."

-Brandie and Candie

Upon Debbie's wishes, a private service was held with only immediate family members present. The family invites everyone to help honor Debbie by sharing their favorite memories, stories and photos of her on this memorial page or on Facebook.
