David Steel Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of David Steel of Prattville, Alabama, on April 02, 2025 peacefully at his home. David was born in Artesia, New Mexico to Leroy David and Alice Inez Allen-Steel on September 28, 1958. David is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Audrey “Cindy” Steel, his sister, Mary Alice Smith of Avondale, AZ. Two nephews, Robert David Smith and Scott Paul Smith of Avondale, AZ and his niece, Jennifer Smith of Masa, AZ. He also leaves behind two grate nieces, Taylor Bible and Hayle Bible and one grate nephew William Smith of Sholow, AZ and bonus Granddaughter Audrey Leeann Cagle-Kuhn of Gladstone, ND.

David was raised in Artesia, NM and moved to Taft, CA with his family in 1968. David attended and graduated from Taft High School, in Taft, CA and went on to attend New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. After collage David returned to Taft, CA and began a career in the Oil Industry. David was employed by JP Oil Company of Lafayette, LA for many years. David retired from the Oil business in 2020 and moved to Alabama where he, and his wife, made their retirement home in the Vida Community in Autauga County. David enjoyed all genres of music, especially “The Grateful Dead” where he earned the nickname “Grateful Dave” by his dear friend, and colleague, Berry Hansen. David was also an avid reader, he enjoyed reading about history and old westerns. He also enjoyed camping and fishing in the California Sierras with his best friend Brian Kightlinger, his wife and their two boys (Oscar and Felix). We will all miss David and his kindness and love that he showed to his family and friends, but it is comforting to know that David is now with Jesus and living a free life with his Lord and savior.

A memorial service for David will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025 – 11:00 am at Zion Ridge Church of God in Clanton AL, located at 3258 County Road 49, Clanton, Alabama 35045.
