REECE, Daniel E. (Danny), 61, of Shorter passed peacefully to heaven on January 29, 2023. Daniel, known to many as SpicyD, was in the building business in and around Montgomery for more than 35 years. His knowledge and talents and insistence on perfection of his work in residential construction were well respected by area builders.
In his teenage years he loved playing baseball and car racing and built or rebuilt his first gasoline engine before he was 16. He was devoted to helping his mother, brother and sisters in any way he could. There were many neighborhood football games along with go kart and motorcycle rides that kept him busy as a young teen. He was a gifted barbecue chef, developing his own SpicyD barbecue seasoning and award winning barbecue sauce along with his secret recipe for SpicyD boiled peanuts. He was a frequent competitor in local charity barbecue cookoffs and events. He loved bass fishing tournaments and was a sure shot on the dove field. He had a gift and a green thumb for growing anything and everything from roses and flowers to the best tomatoes and the hottest peppers in town. He loved animals and for many years raised many purebred bloodhound puppies registered under his own SpicyD Kennel.
Daniel is predeceased by his parents, Daniel D. Reece and Elizabeth H. Reece and by his brother Harry Steven Reece. He is survived by his sisters, Grace (Dan) Devane of Leeds and Marsha Ann (Dale) Galloway of Deatsville, his nieces who he adored, Liza Devane and Madelyn Galloway, both of Auburn, and his long time friend Neva Conway. He is also survived by his uncle and aunts, many cousins and dear friends.
