Benny Medina Obituary

Benny (Ben) Ray Medina, 61, of Pike Road, Alabama passed away after an incredibly brave fight with kidney and liver disease on October 21st, 2021. Ben was born in Monahans, Texas on September 1,1960. Ben was preceded in death by his mother Felisitas Medina, father Benigno Medina, grandmother Manuela Gonzales and brother David Medina. Ben is survived by his loving wife Ann Marie Medina, sons Benny Medina (Christine), John Medina (Rebecca), Lupe Medina and Paul Gilmore (Katie), brother Ruben Medina (Staci), Aunt Beatrice Chavez, sister in law Rachel Medina, brother in law Jeff Baker (Emily), brother in law Jay Baker (Amy), cousin Russ Dobbs (Megan), grandsons Hudson, Jack, Xander and Eli, granddaughters Evie and Madison, several nieces, nephews and friends who are family.

After graduating from Torrejon High School in Madrid, Spain, Ben served in the United States Air Force and was a disabled veteran. As a veteran, he had great pride for his country and the military.  He was a graduate of John Patterson Technical College with a degree in Auto Mechanics and had a long career as an auto mechanic in the Montgomery area for over 30 years. At the end of his career, he had reached GM world class master technician status.

Ben had a great love for baseball, umpiring in and running the Dixie Youth Umpires Association for several years, as well as umpiring in the minor leagues for the Montgomery Biscuits. Ben was an avid builder and woodworker, loved the beach and the lake and hanging out with family and friends. Ben loved his family first, but was always there to help a friend in need. He was a great soul with a huge heart that will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank all of the doctors and staff at the Taylor Road Fresinius dialysis clinic, Dr. Heather Echols, and the Montgomery and Birmingham VA. A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 30th at 1:30. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Disabled American Veterans charity may be made in Ben's name.
