Arlene Garrity Obituary

Arlene Hanzely Garrity, age 91, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025. She was born on April 19, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents George and Frances Hanzely; her sister, Mary Waskowski; her beloved husband, James Garrity; her daughter, Sue Mayhan, 2 grandsons & 1 great grand-daughter. She is survived by her brother, James Hanzely; her son, Mike Garrity (Margie); and her daughters, Barbara Wallace (Jimmy) and Mary Dismukes (Van); 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.

 Arlene was known for her kindness and eagerness to help others and her gentle disposition. While caring for her parents in Ohio, she served in the church’s soup kitchen. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Catholic Social Services, and delivered food from the Montgomery Area Food Bank. She helped her husband establish and operate Capsco, a fire protection company, and worked at Baptist Medical Center East, where she continued to serve others.

Celebration of Life Service at Cain’s Chapel Church, 96 Lightwood Road, Deatsville, AL 36022, Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation at 1:30 pm.  Reception after the service – Family Life Center
