Anne Sliter

Anne Sliter, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and educator, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, in Birmingham, Alabama. Born on June 10, 1944, in Miami, Florida, Anne lived a life dedicated to her family, her faith, and her passion for education.

Anne pursued her studies at The University of Tampa, earning degrees in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. Her career as an educator was marked by an unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds. She shared her gift for teaching with children across the United States, instilling not only academic knowledge but also a lifelong love of learning. Her ability to inspire and guide young people left an indelible mark on countless lives.

As the wife of a military serviceman, Anne embraced a life of travel that took her to many places around the world. This love of exploration became a defining part of who she was. She delighted in planning extraordinary adventures with her nieces, nephews, and grandsons—adventures that combined fun with opportunities for learning and discovery. These journeys reflected Anne’s unique talent for blending education with joy and creating lasting memories for those she loved.

Anne was deeply devoted to her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Les Sliter; daughters Leslie Meadows and Shannon Satterwhite; sons-in-law Scott Satterwhite and Forrest Meadows; grandsons Hunter Meadows and Shep Satterwhite; siblings Mike Lutgen (and his wife Pam), Karen Beatty, Paul Lutgen, and Mary Chance (and her husband Chris); as well as numerous nieces and nephews who cherished her dearly. She was predeceased by her parents, Paul Peter Lutgen and Mary Edna Lutgen, as well as her brother Kenneth Lutgen and nephew Clint Beatty.

Faith was the cornerstone of Anne’s life. She was an active member of Frazer Church in Montgomery, a place where she found both a loving community and spiritual fulfillment. Among her most cherished connections were her dear friends in the Friendship Circle and her sisters in the Warrior Chicks Bible Study group.

Anne’s legacy is one of love, learning, and adventure. Her dedication to education enriched the lives of many children while her passion for travel brought joy to those fortunate enough to share in her journeys. Above all else, Anne will be remembered for the profound impact she had on those who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Frazer Church in Montgomery, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a gift to Frazer Church’s Backpack Ministry or to Samaritan’s Purse in Anne’s memory.
