MATTHEWS, Alvin Tyrone a resident of Montgomery, Alabama passed away Thursday, December 12, 2024 in a local hospital. Alvin Tyrone Matthews is the son of Mamie Burch Matthews and Allen Matthews born February 05, 1950, in Montgomery, Alabama.
As a child, Alvin was a member of Old Ship AME Church, Montgomery, Alabama, and he was also active at Clay Street Baptist Church. He received his education from Daisy Lawrence Elementary, Loveless Jr. High, and G.W. Carver High School.
When he graduated from Carver High School, he furthered his studies from the United Aircraft Training Center in Hartford, Connecticut. This training enabled him to work as a Class A Machinist at Mead Machinery in Atlanta, where he retired after ten years of employment.
Following an injury that left him a paraplegic, he fostered his “Jack of all Trades” skills in various jobs - he was by no means limited by the wheelchair.
He was active as a little league baseball coach, where he was instrumental in coaching the team to a state championship.
Alvin was ordained as a deacon and served at Beulah Church of Christ, Holiness, Green Pastures Christian Ministries in Atlanta, Georgia, and Consuming Fire Ministries in Montgomery, Alabama, where he served until his health started to decline.
You never heard Alvin say, “I can’t” or “I’m tired;” however, you would hear him say “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.”
Alvin was preceded in death by his mother, Ms. Mamie Lee Matthews, and two grandchildren, Chris and Kalvin Sankey. Precious Memories
