Alex Walter Jackson, age 76, passed away at Shelby Baptist Medical Center on December 2, 2024. He was born to Erma Edgeworth Jackson and John Hollis Jackson, Sr. On November 19, 1948 in Montgomery, AL. He grew up in Clanton, AL. He attended public school until he transferred to Indian Springs and graduated High School. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill until graduating with a Bachelors Degree. He was accepted and attended Law School at The University of Alabama, graduating with his J.D. in 1974.
Alex practiced law in Clanton, AL for 6 yrs. He was offered a Staff Attorney position with the Alabama State Bar for several years until he left to work for the State of Alabama Supreme Court as a Staff Attorney in the Clerk's office. During his time there, Alex was appointed by the Court to serve as the Staff Attorney for Special Chief Justice Nabors and Special Chief Justice Patterson following the removal of Chief Justice Moore from office. Alex was also an Instructor for Jones School of Law for several years and served as a Municipal Judge for the Town of Thorsby, AL.
Alex is survived by his three children, Anna J. Holly of Chattanooga, TN; John Alexander Jackson II of Greenville, AL and Daniel Graves Jackson of Verbena, AL. He also has five grandchildren, Blake Holly, Abigail Holly, Leila Mills, Raeleigh Jackson and Brantley Davis. One brother, John Hollis Jackson, Jr. his nephew, John Hollis Jackson, III and his Caregiver, Janet E. Smith. His first son, Alex Walter Jackson, Jr., passed away at 7 yrs old in 1986.
For years, he was an active member of the Kiwanis Club in Clanton and Montgomery. He was also a Member of First United Methodist Church in Clanton and The First United Methodist Church in Montgomery, AL.
Alex will be interred at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery, AL on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM. The service will be held at graveside attended by family and friends.
